The old ship looked like **** in comparison.
Just like the Megathron and Stabber / Vagabond. CCP's dude behind those three redesigns (and I'm sure at least one guy was involved in all three, as they share a common theme) sure knows what he is doing.
They look like they have mass and substance now. The armor looks like armor, the engines look absolutely gorgeous, and all the ugly, superfluous **** got toned down to the point it actually looks good, keeping the distinctive shape while losing the crappy bits simultaneously. Truly impressive.
There were some ships I never wanted an artist to touch, ever, because they would inevitably come out the other end looking like crap. Iconic ships like the Omen, Firetail, Rifter, Abaddon, Maelstrom, Thorax, etc.
I want this artist identified. I want him to then be chained up and locked in a room with those ships. Because if anyone is deserving of having his way with the iconic ships, it is this guy.

Do you like flying garish monstrosities? Oversaturation is plain ugly, on top of unrealistic.
This style is very fitting, IMO. The armor looks like it is purpose build - paneled, bright but nonreflective, and sturdy. The accents are still there, just not as "omg turn the gloss to 11" ugliness. It looks like a real object built out of metal, ceramics and composites. As it should. The old Amarr skins looked like gaudy jewlery made of tin and painted with cheap gold paint.

though the red&gold paint job is awesome.... That's because the Paladin model isn't finished yet. thx :) i imagine the paladin to be a "fully" plated apoc. blood red with golden marqueterie, while bright, sunlike light breaks out where two armor plates get together :D it could like pulsate and wave from the front to the back.
